Personal stuff or “Who is the designer behind Whirligig Designs ?” The answer to that question would be me - Chris Hoover. I began quilting over 30 years ago and a “new” hobby soon became an all-consuming passion. Sometimes I feel like I think “quilts” because everything I see influences my designs — from color and texture, to architecture and nature. As you may notice, I’m a very eclectic designer. One minute I’m the traditionalist with feathered stars and civil war fabrics and the next minute a contemporary mood strikes and I’m working with batiks and non-traditional designs. I’ve been designing for over 15 years now and there is always something new on my cutting table and in my sketch pad. My favorite rulers are the Easy Angle™ and Companion Angle™ by E Z Quilting or Creative Grids 45º Half Square Triangle Ruler and Creative Grids 90º Quarter Square Triangle Ruler. If there’s a half-square or quarter-square triangle in my pattern (and there are many), it was cut with one of these rulers. They save you time and fabric and once you become familiar with how to use them, I know you will love them as much as I do. Please visit often. A new design comes along about every other month. Other personal stuff not quilt related: My immediate family includes a wonderful, supportive husband, two sons and a daughter-in-law who quilts (Woo-Hoo!), an adorable grandson, and two rescue dogs. I can always squeak in a few hours to read, knit, walk the dogs or ride my bike. But you will usually find me doing something quilt related - at my sewing machine (sometimes all hours of the day or night), working on a design, at the computer working on a pattern or at my local quilt shop. That is when I’m not visiting my grandson. ☺ |
